# AI Visibility Tools

## Overview

AI visibility tools track how brands appear in AI-generated answers. They sell the measurement described in [[concepts/ai-visibility-measurement]]. Most also publish citation studies, so the same company is both a measurer and a seller; those studies are catalogued in [[summaries/ai-citation-studies]] with a vendor-interest column. This page covers only what the gathered vendor pages state. Where a product's method is not documented in the raw sources, it is listed as a gap, not inferred.

## Characteristics

| Tool | What the gathered pages say it does | Method detail available | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Ahrefs Brand Radar** (AI Visibility Index) | Mentions, citations, "found but not cited", impressions, AI Share of Voice, sentiment, funnel stage; API for mentions, citations, impressions, SOV | Fullest of any vendor: prompts from People Also Ask plus a keyword database (28.7B keywords with positive volume), fanout expansion, stored raw responses, free public web interfaces, monthly refresh with 90-day window; AI Mode and AI Overviews continuous | Index page claims 531M+ monthly prompts across six indexes (AI Overviews 297,759,212; AI Mode 122,610,321; Gemini 28,185,688; Copilot 28,124,854; ChatGPT 27,825,879; Perplexity 26,986,365). Pricing shown from EUR 179/mo per platform selection, EUR 654/mo all platforms, with 2,500 checks/mo for custom prompts. "Used by 3,000+ companies" is Ahrefs' claim. |
| **Semrush AI Visibility Index** | Public index of brand mentions and cited sources by industry, market and month for ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overview, Gemini | 2026 study: 180M+ AI answers, 22 industries, 9 markets (H2 edition: seven months of data, UK and US, published October 2026). Full methodology is linked but not in the gathered page | Sells "Enterprise AI Optimization". Semrush's AI toolkit product details were not gathered. |
| **Peec AI** | Runs customer prompts across platforms such as ChatGPT and Perplexity once every 24 hours; tags, competitors, sources views; Agent, API and an MCP server for prompt management | Prompt entry via suggestions, manual, CSV bulk upload (prompts, locations, topics, tags), Discovery, Agent, MCP; a "Volume" metric guides prompt choice; only active prompts count toward plan limits | Help text says results vary day to day; look at patterns over time. |
| **Profound** | AEO platform; Series D announced 16 Sep 2026: USD 180M at USD 1.8B valuation led by Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins; launching "AI Marketer (Aim)", a content agent | The Series D post is a funding and strategy announcement; it gives no tracking methodology | Claims 2,500+ brands, a third of the Fortune 100. Also states AI "scans 350,000 sources to judge your brand", an unsourced company claim. Another post (4 Nov 2026) says Muse Spark is now tracked. |
| **OtterlyAI** | Publishes "The AI Citation Economy" study (1M+ citations from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Jan-Feb 2026) | Tool method not described in the gathered page; page links a GEO Audit Tool | See study caveats below. |
| **Scrunch** | Two separate products: Monitoring & Insights, and the Agent Experience Platform (AXP) | AXP sits at the CDN layer (Cloudflare Snippets, Akamai EdgeWorkers and Forward Rewrite cloudlet, AWS CloudFront Functions) and returns simplified HTML to detected AI bots on existing URLs; human visitors see the normal site. Help page dated 7 July 2026 | AXP is a delivery product, not a measurement one. Scrunch says it is not cloaking; see [[concepts/content-manipulation-and-prompt-injection]]. |
| **Writesonic** | Says it tracks citation sources across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and six other platforms | Not described beyond that | Publishes the 161,286-prompt overlap study (22 Jul 2026). |
| **Wellows** | LLM citation tracking and GEO/AEO workflows | Its studies come from its own tracked data, which it says skews to commercial and product-comparison prompts | 22.7M-citation and 20.5M-citation studies (Jul-Aug 2026). |
| **SE Ranking** | ChatGPT Visibility Tracker | Not described | Publishes a 129,000-domain ChatGPT citation study (24 Nov 2025). |
| **AirOps** | Content and SEO/AEO platform | "Fan-Out Effect" report on 16,851 queries, each sent to ChatGPT three times | Report page is a lead-generation landing page, undated in the gathered text. |
| **BrightEdge** | AI Catalyst and Generative Parser | Used for AIO presence, height and citation-overlap tracking across nine industries | Measures Google AI Overviews. |

### Study caveats worth knowing when a tool's numbers are quoted

- **Otterly** (1M+ citations; the scope line says Jan-Feb 2026, but the body says "2025-2026" and mentions a Reddit drop on "Sept 11", outside that window): its summary says community platforms (Reddit, Quora) capture 52.5% of citations versus 47.5% for brand domains, but the body text says brands represent 52.5% and the other 47.5% goes to news (20.3%), community forums (5.9%) and others. The two statements conflict; do not quote either without opening the original.
- **Wellows** (Jan-Jun 2026): the vendor re-tested its own findings against a random baseline on 30 July 2026 and reported that part of two of them did not survive; its 79.6% headline held.
- **Ahrefs**: its panel runs through the free, publicly available web interfaces; its methodology does not state whether sessions are logged in.

## How to Use

1. **Decide the question first.** Competitive share of voice needs a panel tool. "Is Google showing my pages in AI features" needs Search Console's Generative AI performance report (see [[concepts/ai-search-controls-and-reporting]]).
2. **Ask each vendor** for: prompt count and source, interface (web UI or API), run frequency, locale mix, whether mentions or citations are counted, and how competitor entities are defined. Ahrefs and Peec document most of these; for most others the gathered pages do not.
3. **Track per engine.** The overlap studies by Writesonic and Wellows (both tool vendors) argue a single blended score hides which engine moved.
4. **Keep first-party logs.** Edge products such as Scrunch AXP report agent traffic; server logs show which bots fetch pages regardless of any panel.
5. **Do not buy a tool to fix content.** Measurement shows where you appear; what drives citation is covered in [[concepts/generative-engine-optimization]].

Gaps: Profound's and Otterly's tracking methods, Semrush's AI toolkit feature set, and independent comparisons of tool accuracy were not in the gathered sources.
